American Family-Style

American Family-Style

The best part of our American family-style meal was watching people successfully eating grilled cheese with chopsticks. It was also great to watch the expressions of a family who has never tried “American” food.

On our last full day in Ningbo, we got to see a Chinese farm, and we got to cook some “American” food for our friend’s family. Because Chinese people usually eat “family-style,” (lots of small dishes that everyone takes from), we figured it would be easier to cook many things.

Our rather unusual menu consisted  of Parmesan French fries, guacamole (with crackers, because we couldn’t find chips), spaghetti, chicken, scrambled eggs, salad and cucumbers, grilled peanut butter and jelly and grilled cheese, and watermelon. We couldn’t find ingredients for many of the things we originally wanted to make.

This was the first floor of the home we stayed in for the holiday.
