In Egypt, Friday and Saturday are the weekend, so Shady took me to his Orthodox, Coptic church (we determined it is similar to Catholic). We sat in the back so that he could translate it to me and so no one would mind that I was on the wrong side (men and women are separated). Also, everyone took off their shoes before communion, which I thought was interesting.

Friday ended up being somewhat hectic because we went to the pyramids, where many people were hassling the tourists and wanting money. The pyramids are so incredibly large and the muscle and material that went into them is astounding, yet, they were made for only one person and one small chamber where the mummified Pharaoh was put. The climb down to it was so narrow and short that even I felt a little claustrophobic. Only a short walk down the hill was the Sphinx, which was also on our to-see list.

Being rather tired from everything, we ate supper near the Nile, took a short boat ride on it, and watched the action film Stolen at a movie theater. It was in English with Arabic and French subtitles.

“‘Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?’ The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks  be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” ~1 Corinthians 15:55-57
